SSSI was incorporated in 1984 as a wholly owned subsidiary of the Sikorsky Aircraft Corporation. SSSI consists of three divisions: the Aircraft Service Division (ASD) which performs major aircraft modifications and crash damage repairs of Sikorsky products; the Maintenance Service Division (MSD) with responsibility for performing contract maintenance and base support on all fixed and rotary wing aircraft; and the Field Service Operations (FSO) which is responsible for providing field service representatives to customers of Sikorsky products.

Additionally, SSSI and Boeing Aerospace Operations, Inc. have a 50/50 joint venture company known as Boeing Sikorsky Aircraft Support (BSAS). BSAS provides a range of logistic services in support of the Army Special Operations Forces stationed at Ft. Campbell, KY.

SSSI also has management control over two other Sikorsky Aircraft Corporation entities: Sikorsky International Products, Inc. (SIPI) and Sikorsky Aircraft Australia Limited (SAAL). Sikorsky International Products, Inc. is responsible for providing maintenance, technical, and other support services for fixed and rotary wing aircraft, as well as their associated facilities, ground support equipment, and other ancillary equipment in countries outside the United States. Sikorsky Aircraft Australia Limited is responsible for providing a wide range of maintenance, logistic, and technical services to the Royal Australian Army and Navy in support of their Black Hawk and Seahawk aircraft.

Today, the SSSI team is made up of over 1,300 dedicated employees supporting their customers at over 100 sites located around the world.
